Beenleigh High School Droughtmaster Stud was founded in 1982 with the donation of Minlacowie Zena 16 (in calf to Billabong 1643) by Derrick and Pam Spann of the Minlacowie Stud then based at Mornish in Central Queensland.

Zena and her heifer calf, Beenleigh High Zoe, have
provided the corner stone of all the animals in the herd that now trace back to two of the most powerful and successful genetic bases in the Droughtmaster breed.

The selection of animals on temperament and conformation due to the obvious nature of the operation hasresulted in a breeding herd of select females that are structurally correct and of quiet temperament.

The major base of the operation is the school at Beenleigh, 45kms south of Brisbane. Well constructed
facilities, together with an AUSMEAT accredited feedlot, provide an ideal environment for the preperation and handling of show and sale cattle. The school area boasts areas of improved pasture (rhodes grass, green panic, clover and kikuyu) as well as areas regularly prepared to produce forage sorghum in the summer and either rye grass or oats in winter for grazing.

The female herd is located on two other well equipped properties just south of Beenleigh at Yatala and returns to the school for weaning of calves and mating with our resident sire; Minlacowie Karfy who needs no introduction to those in the Droughtmaster breed.

Again it was the generosity of Derrick and Pam Spann who donated Karfy's dam, Minlacowie Hart to the school and allowed Beenleigh to use his sire Wingfield Tzar whilst he was at the school as part of the Minlacowie/Wingfield Show Team.

This mating produced a bull that conquered all before him in the show ring at Local, Royal and Feature Shows during his illustrious career and is now producing calves in his own image.

The Beenleigh High School herd continues its association with the Minlacowie/Wingfield operation with sires such as Minlacowie Hamilton, Wingfield Boris, Minlacowie Gian, Minlacowie Jarrett, Minlacowie Moses and Minlacowie Imperialist (Moses) producing strong female families. Other sires evident in the breeding herd are Sunny View Quarry, Yackatoon Monarch, Yackatoon Quebec and Kengoon President.
